Typical Costs for Bespoke Metalwork

All of our work is made to measure and priced according to the specific requirements of each project.

Once the layout, fixing method and finish are understood, most projects fall within a predictable range.

The figures below are intended as a guide for early budgeting, not a substitute for a site visit or detailed quotation.

How Pricing Works

For linear items such as balustrades, handrails and railings, pricing consists of:

  • A base project cost (covering site visit, setup and installation), and
  • A per metre rate, depending on build level

Longer runs are typically more cost-effective per metre once setup and installation are accounted for.

Build Levels

Our balustrades, handrails and railings are available in three build levels:

  • Essential Build
  • Substantial Build (recommended for most projects)
  • Robust Build

The difference between build levels is material gauge, which affects rigidity, weight and long-term durability.

Balustrades

Balustrades

Typical Costs (incl. VAT)

  • Base project cost: from £600 (Essential), £650 (Substantial), £700 (Robust)
  • Essential Build: from £300 per metre
  • Substantial Build: from £330 per metre
  • Robust Build: from £375 per metre

These figures assume standard height in line with current building regulations, straight runs, and straightforward fixing into concrete or masonry.

Changes in level, curves, decorative elements, glass infill or complex fixing conditions will affect final pricing.

Balustrade projects range from short sections to long continuous runs across terraces, balconies and raised areas.

Handrails

Handrails may be supplied as part of a wider project or installed independently.

Typical Costs (incl. VAT)

  • Base project cost: from £650 (Essential), £700 (Substantial), £750 (Robust)
  • Essential Build: from £420 per metre
  • Substantial Build: from £450 per metre
  • Robust Build: from £490 per metre

Pricing depends on length, number of returns, fixing method, and whether the handrail is internal or external.

Railings

Railings are often more site-specific than expected, particularly on sloping ground or uneven masonry.

Railings

Typical Costs (incl. VAT)

  • Base project cost: from £500 (Essential), £550 (Substantial), £600 (Robust)
  • Essential Build: from £275 per metre
  • Substantial Build: from £300 per metre
  • Robust Build: from £345 per metre

Where appropriate, we'll advise whether bespoke railings are the right solution or whether an alternative approach would offer better value for the site.

Gates

Gates vary significantly depending on size, detailing and site conditions.

Typical Costs (incl. VAT)

  • Pedestrian gates typically £750 - £1250
  • Driveway gates typically £2,500 – £6,000

All gates are made to suit the property they're installed in, with proportions, hinges and hardware selected for durability and long-term use.

We do not supply automation directly, but regularly collaborate with trusted automation specialists where required. Automation is priced separately and coordinated as part of the overall project.

What These Figures Include

Unless stated otherwise, guide prices typically include:

  • Site measurement and survey
  • Fabrication
  • Hot dip galvanising
  • Powder coating
  • Installation

All external steelwork is hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated as standard to provide long-term corrosion protection and reduce ongoing maintenance.

Complex fixing conditions, restricted access, changes in level or bespoke detailing may affect the final cost.

Projects outside our normal working area may incur additional charges, which will always be discussed in advance.

A Note on Comparisons

There are cheaper, off-the-shelf options available online.

Our work is different:

  • Made to fit the site
  • Fabricated and installed by the same team
  • Designed for longevity, not short-term savings

If price alone is the deciding factor, we're unlikely to be the right fit, and it's better to establish that early.

Next Steps

If these ranges feel appropriate for your project, the next step is a site visit and discussion.

That allows us to confirm scope, advise on design, and provide a clear, fixed quotation.

Most projects fall into the Substantial Build category, offering a sensible balance of strength, durability and value.
